Introduction

 

Swordfish provides a number of indicator templates to create custom indicators. You also have the option to create an indicator from an empty template. This is a basic guide and not meant to be comprehensive.

 

This function enables you to Export or Import Custom Indicators. Custom Indicators could be exported to create a back up.

 

Creating Custom Indicators

Method 1

 

Open a chart.
Add an new chart area to the chart window or select the main chart area.
Right-click on chart area and select Edit/Add Indicator.
Click on the More button and open the Custom list group. (illustrated below)

 

 

 

 

 

Browse the list of example indicator templates and select one that is close to your indicator need i.e. number of parameters or trading strategy etc. and click Ok.

 

Find and select your added indicator in the Current Indicator list view. Click on the source code button to edit the indicator.

 

See the Indicator Editor window :

 

Edit the indicator script in the yellow Script box.
Click on Check Script to ensure the indicator script is error free.
If script is error free, ''OK'' will appear. (illustrated below)

 

 

Method 2

An additional method to edit/add a custom indicator, is by right-clicking on Custom node in the File section of the Indicator Editor.

 

 

 

 

 

Export Custom Indicators

Custom Indicators are exported to create a back up. All indicators are exported as a group into a file and exporting a single custom indicator is not supported yet.

 

Method

 

Choose Chart > Custom Indicators > Export on the main menu of Swordfish.

 

                                                                                                           

 

 

Click on Save As on the following window.

 

 

If desired, rename your Custom Indicators, and click on Save.

 

 

An optional password can be entered in the space provided, then click on Ok.

 

 

Custom Indicators will be saved.

 


 

Import Custom Indicators

A previously exported custom indicators file can be imported. Very Important - All your existing custom indicators will be overwritten if you import a custom indicator file.

Method

 

Choose Chart > Custom Indicators > Import on the main menu of Swordfish.

 

 

 

Click on Find on the following window.

 

 

Choose the desired .sfi file, click on Open.

 

 

An optional password can be entered in the space provided, then click on Ok.

 

 

Custom Indicators will be imported.
